Terms of use
What this site offers, what it does not promise, and what you may do with the material. Short on purpose.

By using Low Desert Almanac you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, the remedy is simply not to use the site: there is nothing to cancel, no account to close, and nothing to unsubscribe from.
The site is a general reference about living in the Phoenix desert. It is published as an independent editorial project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by any agency whose data it uses.
Considerable care is taken with the figures on this site: they are generated from official sources, each one carries a link to where it came from and the date it was checked, and the methods are published. None of that is a guarantee. The material is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, and it may contain errors, may be out of date, and may not apply to your particular location, property or circumstances.
The site is also offered without any promise of availability. It may change, be interrupted, or be withdrawn, and pages may be corrected or removed at any time.
You are welcome to quote from this site, link to it, cite it, print pages for personal use, or use the tools for your own household or work. Where you quote, please attribute it to Low Desert Almanac with a link to the page you took it from, so a reader can follow the figure back to the source underneath it.
The underlying climate data is not this site's to license: it comes from NOAA NCEI and other public bodies, and it is theirs. If you want the figures themselves, go to the source named on the page rather than to this site; the methods page tells you exactly which file each dataset came from.
Bulk copying of the site's own writing, or republishing it wholesale, is not permitted. Quoting with attribution is.
The tools run entirely in your browser. Anything you enter (a rainfall amount, a checklist, a plant list) stays on your device and is never sent anywhere. That also means it is yours to lose: clearing your browser's site data removes it, and there is no copy anywhere to restore it from.
The tools produce estimates from long-term climate averages. They are not forecasts, not engineering calculations, not medical or legal advice, and not a substitute for the guidance of the agency responsible for the question you are asking. Their limits are stated on each tool page and should be read before the output is relied on for anything.
To the extent permitted by law, Low Desert Almanac and the people who publish it are not liable for any loss or damage arising from the use of this site or from reliance on anything on it, including decisions made about work in the heat, travel, property, plants, pools, equipment or money.
Nothing on this site is medical, legal, financial or safety advice for an individual situation, and it should not be treated as such. Where a decision carries a real risk, the authority is the agency that issues the warning or the professional responsible for the question.
These terms may be updated. When they are, the date at the top of this page changes. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
This page describes how the site is offered. It is not legal advice to anyone reading it.
Questions about these terms go to the contact page. Corrections to a figure are a separate and more welcome category. See the editorial policy for how those are handled.
