Low Desert Almanac

Privacy policy

What this site stores, what it collects, and what it does with either. The answer to the second question is nothing, and this page explains how that works.

The short version

Summary
  • There are no accounts, no sign-ups and no email list.
  • There are no analytics, no tracking scripts and no advertising.
  • The site sets no cookies at all.
  • A handful of tools remember what you typed. That memory lives in your own browser, on your own device, and is never sent to this site or anyone else.
  • If you email the site, the message and your address are kept so the conversation can continue, and for nothing else.

What is stored on your device

Local storage

Some tools need to remember something between visits: a checklist you have half finished is worthless if it empties when you close the tab. Those tools use your browser's local storage. Nothing in it leaves your device: it is not transmitted, not synchronised and not readable by this site's operators.

What Stored under Why
Monsoon prep checklist lda-monsoon-checklist The items you have ticked, so a list you started on Tuesday is still there on Friday.
Rain log entries lda-rain-log The rainfall amounts you recorded and the dates you recorded them, so the log builds up across a season.
Yard hydrozones lda-hydrozones The plants you placed in each water-use zone, and the zones you named.
Cooling and pool task state lda-home-tasks Which maintenance tasks you have marked done, and the date you marked them.
Peak-hours routine lda-peak-hours The daily habits you entered, used to show which of them land in an on-peak electricity window.

You can clear all of it at any time. Every tool that stores something has a reset control, and clearing your browser's site data for this domain removes the lot. Clearing it does not break anything. Each tool simply starts empty again.

Because nothing is sent anywhere, there is nothing for this site to hand over, sell, lose in a breach or mine for anything. That is not a promise about good behaviour; it is a consequence of how the tools are built.

What is collected

Nothing

No analytics service, no tag manager, no heat-mapping, no session recording, no advertising network, no social embed, no third-party font host and no fingerprinting. The site does not know how many people visited it, which pages they read, what they searched for or where they came from.

Fonts are served from this domain rather than from a font network, which means loading a page here does not tell a third party that you did.

Hosting and server logs

Infrastructure

The site is a set of static files served by a hosting provider. Like any web host, the provider records standard request information (the IP address a request came from, the page requested, the time and the browser's user-agent string) in its own logs, and those logs are held by the provider under its own privacy terms rather than by this site. Those records are not combined with anything, not used to build a profile, and not accessible here.

The site is served over HTTPS. There is no server-side application, no database and no user data to store on one.

Third parties

Links out

Pages here link to the agencies whose data they use: NOAA, the National Weather Service, Maricopa County, the University of Arizona and others. Those links are ordinary hyperlinks: nothing loads from those sites until you click one, and once you are there, their privacy practices apply rather than this policy.

There are no embedded videos, no social media widgets, no comment systems and no map embeds on this site, all of which would load third-party code into the page.

Children

Age

This site is a general reference and is not directed at children. It collects no personal information from anyone, of any age, so there is nothing specific to say about children's data beyond that.

Changes to this policy

Revisions

This policy is reviewed before anything changes

If the site ever adds advertising or analytics, this page will be rewritten to describe exactly what was added and what it collects before it appears on any page, and the date at the top will change. A policy that quietly stops being true is worse than no policy.

Questions

Questions about any of this, or a request relating to a message you have sent, go to the contact page. There is no data request process to go through, because there is no stored data to request.
